Noise pollution, in the recent times, has been well recognized as one of the major problems that impact the quality of life in urban areas across all over the word. Launchghat, one of the major points of Gopalganj municipality in Bangladesh, is rapidly emerging as industrialized and urbanized city and has started facing severe noise pollution problems. This study was carried out to assess the existing status of noise levels and its impacts on the environment with a possibility of a further expansion of the Gopalganj city. Launch ghat, the busiest and most crowded place of Gopalganj was selected as the study area. It’s a mixed area. The study was conducted at the day time (02.55pm – 03.50pm) on 24 october 2022. The noise levels were measured by using Sound Level and a total of 12 data were recorded at every five minutes interval. Noise pollution indices viz. L10, L50, L90, noise climate (NC), equivalent continuous noise level (Leq), noise pollution level (Lnp) and traffic noise index (TNI) were computed to understand the present noise level status (Hunashal and Patil,2012). Results indicated that the highest Leq of 82.64 dBA was observed and 80.39 dBA was lowest observation. The noise assessment study clearly revealed the alarming condition of noise pollution and it’s deleterious effects on the dwellers. Therefore, urgent measures should be taken to control the level of noise pollution in the city. Taking into account the physical and mental health of the urban people, predominantly of the children, it is imperative for the decision makers, leaders, planners and engineers to keep the noise level of the city within acceptable limits.
