Cooking is one of our bonding session with my sisters. Whenever we think of having quality time together we always end up cooking which we all agree. For those who don't know yet, I have two sisters and one brother. My two sisters, Ann and Jane were both married. Ann is just in the neighborhood while Jane is far from our house, maybe a 20 minutes drive or so. Yesterday, Jane visit in our house and wanted to have quality time with us. Ann our elder sister think of making a pie, instead of spending money buying something in town. So, they decided to cook a pie. Yes, it's just them because I got fever and just stayed indoor. But we ate it together.
This pie is unique that I wanted to share it with you. It's made out of corn not the one you cook and ate in replace with the rice but the white small granules from the corn.
It is called Tektik in our bisaya language and I don't know how it's called in Tagalog or English. Do you know what's the name of this?
When I asked my sister she called it corn flour. Allow me to use this term anyway. Correct us if we're wrong.
Let's continue. Since you know what's the main ingredient of this recipe, let's learn the other ingredients as well and the procedure so that if you wanted to try this one you are free to follow the instructions.
Ingredients:
5 cups of Tektik (corn flour)
1/2 cup Margarine
5 cups Coconut milk
4 teaspoon Baking powder
1/2 Brown sugar
4 smash ripe banana (baloy)
Food color
Procedure:
Make sure that the corn flour is in small granules. You can use trainer to do so.
Add coconut milk.
Put margarine.
Add the smash banana.
Add the baking and food color.
Then mix. Make sure it is already mix well and no more granules remain.
Wait 5-10 minutes. As long as you could see bubbles on it.
Put it in a molder pan.
Now you can start to steam it. If you have oven you can use oven instead.
Since we don't have oven we just steamed it. It cost us a lot of time waiting for it to be cooked. So, it's better to use oven if you have.
She used a big cooking pan put water in it. Cover the molder pan with cellophane ,since we don't have thin foil, and tied it in order to tighten. Put the steamer inside the pan and put the molder pan with cover inside and cover the pan.
After waiting of 40 minutes, we finally taste it. We put margarine on top of it to make it more delicious. I forget to picture when we slice it. (Nagutom na po π π sorry)
It's delicious and smooth the banana help the texture to smoothen.
While waiting for it to be cooked we chatted a lot. Tell funny and serious stories. That's how we spend our bonding time. I really love when we have time together. And made it one of my memorable moments with them. Small talks and cooking is the best when I am with them. We don't bond often but when we do it's the best.
During this time of pandemic, we should connect more often to our love ones and spend time with them. Having such moments with our family and siblings could ease the fears and worries that the pandemic brought us.
