Eczema and Dermatitis on the Skin The words eczema and dermatitis are both used to describe the definition of skin inflammation. It is usually patchy, swollen, red and itchy. The patch can be thick, and forms blisters and sores if the eczema is severe. Types of Dermatitis: 1. Contact dermatitis-This is the result of direct skin contact with possible sources of irritation including rubber, metal, jewelry, perfume and make-up. 2. Neurodermatitis - It is very itchy due to the person scratching their own skin. It may have started with a small bite, scar or rubbing on the skin. And when itching, the skin continued to be scratched until the wound grew. 3. Seborrheic dermatitis (called cradle cap in babies) - It usually appears on the scalp and face as itchy dandruff or slippery scales 4. Atopic dermatitis - This is a cause of irritation, thickening and cracking of the skin that is usually seen between the arm, forearm or behind the knee. It is inherited in the family and usually includes allergies. To Prevent and Cure It: 1. Try to identify and avoid the trigger - Possible causes are temperature changes, sweating and stress. Also avoid skin contact with woolen fabrics and strong bath and laundry soaps. 2. Apply anti-itch cream or calamine lotion to the affected skin-The doctor gives 1% hydrocortisone anti-itch cream. An anti-allergy pill can also be taken if the irritation is excessive. 3. Avoid scratching the wound - Cover the itchy part of the skin if scratching cannot be stopped. Also cut the nail and wear gloves at night before going to bed to prevent the wound from getting worse. 4. Apply a cold compress - If you wrap part of the skin with a bandage, it will help protect the skin. 5. Take a bath with lukewarm water. Choose a mild odorless soap - Be sure to rinse the whole body thoroughly. 6. Moisturize the skin - Use an oil or cream to keep the skin and moisture, and do it after bathing. 7. Wear clothes that feel soft and fresh - Avoid wearing ragged, tight and itchy. See a doctor if the skin hurts or has a skin infection. You can try our advice if it helps. #GoodAdvices
