With the fork happening tomorrow, do we need to be concerned about the lack of replay protection? Honestly I’ve been trying to read up on it and not quite sure if I understand it fully. Seems like we would want replay protection.

The basic background is that the ABC people wanted to make all of BCH follow their ideas, and all of BCH rejected it. Instead of simply backing down and accepting that their ideas were simply not shared, they went quiet. We don't know if there will be a new coin, nobody has stated they are actually willing to mine it. Without miners no coin will start. So this is much less a well coordinated split and more one party trying to get his way and failing. And, yeah, in a coordinated split you want replay protection. ABC didn't add it and they made clear they don't really care :(
So when would we know if there’s a new coin? I assume it’s possible that we won’t know right after the fork happens?
