So I was trying to find MetaMask support, and I started with Telegram. There is a "METAMASK OFFICIAL SUPPORT" channel and a "MetaMask Support (Official)" channel. The first channel has posts that say this: > ❗️we disable the permission to post messages for your safety and convenience. > ❌ We care about the quality and relevance of the content you see here and don’t want to expose you to scam attacks. > Your METAMASK team ❤️ > 🚀🚀HELLO!!WELCOME TO METAMASK OFFICIAL SUPPORT!!!🚀🚀 TO CLAIM YOUR METAMUSK AIRDROP PLS SEND A DM TO (and I'm not pasting those account tags here) While that could be a legit way to prevent scammers from emulating official accounts and preying on unsuspecting support seekers, it could also be a great way to prevent people from announcing that the channel is a scam within the channel. It seemed more likely to be the latter to me, so I joined the second channel and asked about the first one. I think I accidentally tagged an account instead of the other channel. Syomeone followed up to see what I meant, and I mentioned that it seemed scammy. I was immediately kicked and banned from the second channel. My first thought was: "maybe they thought I'm a scammer," but my second, much more rational thought was: "why am I searching for a Telegram channel instead of looking it up on the official site?" Guess what... metamask.io doesn't mention Telegram at all. Is metamask.io the official site? Are both Telegram channels scams? Back in the 2011-2012 Bitcoin days, you practically had to go find a scammer offering something that was too good to be true and send them your money. I'm just starting to explore MetaMask, and I've already had a scammer DM me to try to trick me into giving up my seed phrase at a scam site, and it apears I've potentially nearly fallen into some other traps, too. I guess we were only pretending it was the wild west back then. Really it was just the new world, pre Oregon Trail. ETA: Found some confirmation, kinda. https://community.metamask.io/ has a sticky security post including "Rule #8: DO NOT join discord servers, WhatsApps groups, WeChat groups, Telegram channels or Twitter DMs. These are all scams. MetaMask does not support these."
