Think about this for a second
When you don't see what is ahead of you, you always tend to move backwards as you can't stay at one point forever. Think of chicks of some birds such as the Eagle, when learning to fly, they watch their parents flying in and out of the nest everyday, at a point they visualise themselves flying, then summon up courage, spread their wings and reach for the skies.

Yes, a man must have vision of his future or else, he will stay on one spot forever. I love the analogy of the Eagle.
