When taking any decision that is part of your goals in life, wait, pause and learn from people around you before proceeding. It is never enough to trust one's self confidence and ability before engaging on not so familiar terrain. And it also gives you someone else to blame if everything goes wrong ;)
In this case, the bad experience people around you had would surely make you have a better perspective on making a good choice. So, it wouldn't necessarily bring any issues later on.
