When you don't get to manage the little things entrusted with you, there is no way you are going to manage the bigger ones. If you want to learn to build and manage something, start with the little things and build from the scratch. It will be easier for you not to fall than when you start with a bigger project. There is every chance the smaller project will survive and thrive into a more successful thing than the bigger project.
