A lot of times we felt like we were left behind, all alone in a race that is called life. Others keep on running ahead while we are still struggling to stand on our two feet.
Some friends are already graduating while we were barely hanging on to our academics. Some relatives are getting married while we don't even have the time or energy to build a proper romantic relationship with somebody else.
People our age are building their own companies, while others are climbing on the corporate ladders. And yet here we are, still wondering what can we do to survive.
Those are just some of the most relatable issues that I can state on the top of my head. From friends, families, neighbors, or even strangers, we tend to feel like we're missing out on a lot of aspects of life when compared to our surroundings.
We worked our back off, sacrificing sleep and enjoyable times to keep on pushing ahead, but alas, none of it even mattered in the grand scheme of things. So why should we keep working hard if it doesn’t make any difference and instead push us off the cliff?
That’s what one of my friends told me some time ago. It got me thinking about how unfair life is to some of us, and yet there’s almost nothing we can do about it. Some people were born with more privilege than others. It can be in terms of time, money, genetics, connections, or even all of them at once.
And who are we fooling when we say that everyone can reach the top if they work hard enough? If one is not born with any of the privileges I mentioned before, they’d need much more than hard work to reach the top. They would need luck, perseverance, and grit to be able to change their lives for the better or reach their dreams.
It isn’t uncommon in where I live that some people need to take care of their sick relatives since they’re young. While other kids have the time to play around and have fun, these people need to get part-time jobs as a student, either by selling magazines around the block, washing dishes in restaurants, or doing other jobs that they can do to help pay for medications or just to survive on a day-to-day basis.
Some might be lucky or smart enough to earn scholarships to continue their academic lives, but others won’t even think about it as they have a lot more to worry about besides higher education. In a world where most recruiters require a degree before hiring someone, you can guess how hard it is for some of us to improve our way of living in a condition where we simply can’t get into higher education because of one thing or another.
But then again, complaining and comparing ourselves to someone who is more fortunate certainly won’t do us any good. Rather, we should just do our best while keeping our targets in check. Being grateful while you’re down isn’t as simple as it might sound either, but do know that our faith and perseverance shall be tested when things are the toughest and where the future seems dark and gloomy.
Take a deep breath, keep your focus on the goal, and stop forcing yourself to follow others' pacing. We all have our own troubles and burdens to carry, eventhough the intensity might differ from one to another. Just believe in yourself and keep moving forward, even if you need to take a very small step at a time.
Remember that no matter what other people say, you don’t need to be someone that you’re not and follow the life that others shape for you. Just keep improving yourself and be a better you.No matter how hard it is, never give up and stop believing. Because the moment you stop trying is the moment that you stop having any chance. Don't be jealous of others' achievements and blame yourself for not being good enough. Please do yourself a favor and just move at your own pace.
Glad that I can finally finish writing this up. I hope that it might help anyone that's in a bad spot in their life and need some post to lift their spirit. Anyways, I hope that everyone is having a nice day ahead!
