A committee for the implementation of crypto-mining and blockchain has been appointed in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka joins the global movement for the introduction of cryptocurrencies after the creation of a committee for the study and implementation of blockchain and crypto-mining technologies. A letter distributed on October 8 by Sri Lanka's Director General of Government Information, Mohan Samaranayake, shows that the authorities have approved a recent proposal aimed at attracting investment in the country's blockchain and cryptocurrency initiatives. According to Samaranayake, Sri Lankan authorities have identified the need to develop an "integrated digital banking system, blockchain and cryptocurrency mining technology" as a means to stay on par with global partners and international markets. By supporting this initiative, the committee will also monitor laws and regulations applied by other countries to establish rules for countering money laundering (AML), the financing of terrorism and criminal activity.
