In the summer of 1923, Frank and Elizabeth Fraser, with their two-year-old mixed breed Scottish Shepherd, set out from Oregon, Indiana, to visit the family. When they stopped at a gas station in Indiana, while refueling, he was attacked by three dogs and he fled. They were looking for him everywhere, but there was no sign of him. They returned home to Oregon with the belief that they would never see him again. Six months passed, and Bobby had no sign or voice. After losing all hope, their daughter one day saw a skinny, decrepit and exhausted dog on the street that looked like Bobby. After his joyful reaction, it turned out to be him. Thanks to the people who provided him with shelter for a day or two during the trip, the people of Portland were able to reconstruct the complete route he passed.

In order to return to his family, he covered 2/3 of America, almost 4,000 kilometers, in six months. He walked across the Rocky Mountains, in North America, in the middle of winter, and in the end he earned the nickname "Bobby, the miracle of the dog." Due to this endeavor, he became the most popular dog in the country. He was the inspiration for "Lesi Comes Home" Eric Knight .

Vratili su se kući u Oregon sa uverenjem da ga nikada više neće videti. Prošlo je šest meseci, a Bobiju nije bilo ni traga ni glasa. Nakon što su izgubili sve nade, njihova ćerka je jednog dana ugledala na ulici mršavog, oronulog i iscrpljenog psa koji je ličio na Bobija. Po njegovoj radosnoj reakciji ispostavilo se da je to on. Zahvaljujući ljudima koji su mu pružali utočište na dan ili dva tokom putovanja, ljudi iz Portlanda su uspeli da rekonstruišu kompletnu rutu koju je prošao.
Kako bi se vratio svojoj porodici, za šest meseci prešao je 2/3 Amerike, skoro 4.000 kilometara. Išao je preko Stenovitih planina, u Severnoj Americi, usred zime i na kraju je zaslužio nadimak "Bobi, čudo od psa". Zbog ovog poduhvata postao je najpopularniji pas u državi. On je bio inspiracija za „Lesi se vraća kući“
