Intro - Extended Version
An intro isn’t just an intro anymore. It’s starting to feel like a closure. Last night, I wrote something about endings, closure, and somehow, I stumbled across the extended version of Ariana Grande’s Intro. It felt almost destined, like the universe wanted me to hear it, as if even music knew it was the end of the world. *How can I tell if I'm in the right relationship? Aren't you really s'posed to know that shit? Feel it in your bones and own that shit? I don't know.* How can you really tell? Is there a clear sign? A gut feeling? Or are the signs there all along but we choose to ignore them because we're madly in love? We overlook all the red flags even when they are hurting us, breaking us piece by piece. You feel everything all at once when you are at the edge and realize how heavy it all is because you are the only one lifting. *Then I had this interaction I've been thinkin' 'bout for like five weeks. Wonder if he's thinkin' 'bout it too and smiling. Wonder if he knows that that's been what's inspirin' me. Wonder if he's judgin' me like I am right now.* There will be a time when you’ll feel unwanted, unloved, uncared for, and everything in between. But then someone will come along who fills all those gaps. You’ll have an interaction with them, and it will feel so comfortable, as if your life depends on it. In that moment, the future won’t matter. What matters is now. What matters is that you’re both happy, smiling on your way home after those simple dates, as if you’re both pressing rewind on a movie scene. *I don't care. I'd rather tell the truth (Truth). Than make it worse for you, mm (You)* You’re starting to get attached, and for some reasons, it doesn’t feel right. You need to clear the air between you two and tell that person how you feel, rather than risk losing your friendship. *If the sun refused to shine. Baby, would I still be your lover? Would you want me there? If the moon went dark tonight. And if it all ended tomorrow, Would I be the one on your mind, your mind, your mind? And if it all ended tomorrow, would you be the one on mine?* The future isn’t something you’re both thinking about, as if the world will end tomorrow and you’re in each other’s arms under the moon and stars. Kissing as if the clock is running out of time. In the back of your mind, you’re hoping that moment won’t stop. And if it’s the end, you wish to be that person’s only thought while the world falls apart. *Please, pay me no mind, While I jump into your skin and change your eyes. So, you see things through mine (Through mine, through mine, through mine, through mine)* It’s amazing how a simple touch at the side of their neck can change the way someone looks at you. It’s deceiving. You can’t tell if they’re just caught in the moment or if they’re in love, because there’s no difference. It’s like you’re seeing right through them, feeling that the feeling is mutual. *Can't you sense me? I've been right here all this time (All this time). Would you still be here pretending you still like me? (Would you still be?). Pretending you don't regret not thinking before asking.* But then, you’ll go back to reality. His eyes will change again. That person will treat you like just a friend once more. You’ll ask, why not me? Why can’t we be more than this? Why are we still doing this? Are you just pretending to feel something when we’re alone together? Why does everything feel so casual again? Those questions left him silent, and little by little, he began to tiptoe away from you. *Now you're long gone in Cali (Now you're long).* Late night talks start to disappear. The nights grow colder. You stare at your phone, waiting for nothing. One day, you will hear the news. That person already has someone to love. You find yourself lurking at their window like a stranger, hurt by what you see. Their happy faces. His hands around her, waltzing in the living room. And you tell yourself; it could have been you. *And me, I'm still unpacking (Still unpacking). Why I even allowed you on the flight.* You're going to travel again, carrying a bit of regret over what happened. You're searching for yourself because somewhere along the way, you got lost and forgot about the future. Summer is already over, and now comes the fall. It's time to unpack those summer clothes because the air is starting to turn cold. It's hard, but you know you have to. *I broke your heart because you broke mine (I broke your heart). So me, I am the bad guy (I am the bad guy), 'Cause I'd already grieved you. And you started to realize, I do need ya, I did (Mm). I wish I could un-need ya, so I did.* You will send your final letter to him, pouring out all your sentiments with all your heart, not thinking about whether he might get hurt, because you’re slowly dying from being left alone. He might think you’re the bad one. You will be gaslighted, because some people can’t accept that they were wrong. You will cry your eyes out and scream, "*How can I unlove you? How can I un-need you?"* After that, you’ll become a bad bitch, cursing him to rot somewhere he truly belongs.
