Darkside Ransomware Operator donates $20K to Charities

In a blog post, Darkside Ransomware operator describes this Robin Hood movement as an attempt to create the world a much better place and intend to create more contributions later on, however anonymously. The Water Project has been combating with the water crisis from sub-Saharan Africa by acquiring communities in the area access to clean, secure, and dependable water.


The ransomware operators aim to create more contributions in the long run but these will likely probably be anonymous

"As we said in the first press release - we are targeting only large profitable corporations. We think it's fair that some of the money they've paid will go to charity. No matter how bad you think our work is, we are pleased to know that we helped change someone's life."


Their contributions to both charitable organizations were declared in a blog article on the gang escape website, in which they also publish information stolen by victims which didn't pay the ransom. Darkside ransomware operators are given the cash employing The Giving Block, a company that provides nonprofits with the chance to take cryptocurrency contributions. 

They also utilized a cryptocurrency mixing service which hides the road to the first source. On October 13, Darkside revealed evidence their gesture was actual by submitting two receipts to get .88BTC ($10,000) for contributions into the 2 organizations.

"We are aware of the situation and are researching it internally. If the donation is linked to a hacker, we have no intention of keeping it"


While both organizations would set the cash to good use, this is not likely to occur because it caused criminal pursuits. Children International advised that the BBC they wouldn't keep this cash.
