Spent most of yesterday chasing after a shot of one of these. It is mating season for many birds here, and I had three or four Red-Headed Woodpeckers calling from high up in the tree canopies but they were all shielded from view by the leaves. I finally just parked myself on a bench in the front yard with my camera and waited - and then waited some more, because I kept hearing them. Finally one decided to land in an area I had a clear view of and I snapped off several (like 50 of them) with my DSLR and a telescopic lens. These things get pretty loud when they are looking for a mate.

As loud as men at a bar, then?
Yep. And a shrill pitchy thing, worse than an ex-wife, not a songbird call. On and on and on and on.
A bit like a mother in law, then?
I have to try to catch some bird too 📸🐦
It's like my hawks, I have a few in the neighborhood and you hear them daily, but very seldom see one to get a photo of.
I hear and see blackbirds, pigeons and sparrows where I live, they have food on the plate every day. We don't have hawks here.
Wonderful picture - wonderful bird! <3
I saw four wild turkeys out in a field on my drive to work yesterday. Three seemed to be grazing, one was sitting there watching them, full fan display. Many birds indeed.
