🇵🇭 PHILIPPINES SEISMIC UPDATE 🌊 Earthquake Cluster Reactivates West of Luzon A fresh sequence of earthquakes has developed offshore Bolinao, Pangasinan, in the South China Sea, indicating that seismic activity has resumed in the same area that experienced an earthquake swarm on 28–29 June. Latest earthquakes (2 July) • M4.9 – 10 km depth (GEOFON) • M4.3 – 99 km depth (PHIVOLCS) • M3.8 – 17 km depth (PHIVOLCS) • M3.3 – 21 km depth (PHIVOLCS) 📍The earthquakes are concentrated approximately 85–100 km northwest of Bolinao, forming a compact offshore cluster. Why this matters This is not an isolated earthquake. The latest activity is occurring in the same offshore region that experienced numerous M4–M5 earthquakes between 28 and 29 June, including an M5.0 event and several earthquakes in the M4.2–4.7 range. The renewed activity suggests that stress readjustment may still be underway within this section of the offshore fault system. Earthquake swarms like this can continue for hours or even days; however, they do not necessarily indicate that a larger earthquake is imminent. Current assessment 🔸 Seismic activity has clearly reactivated in the offshore Bolinao area. 🔸 Additional earthquakes are possible as the sequence evolves. 🔸 No tsunami threat is expected based on the earthquakes recorded so far.
