Do you know that low water intake is a major cause of most body malfunction associated with the nervous, circulatory, digestive, urinary, skeletal, muscular and excretory systems?

This article seeks to talk about some of the health benefits of drinking a lot of water daily.

Water and blood pressure

Blood distributes nutrients, oxygen and other substances across the entire body. The most abundant composition of blood is water and it is responsible for blood volume. Enough intake of water increases blood volume and stabilizes the blood pressure. Like wise, when water in blood is less, it results in low blood pressure which is serious clinical condition. When there is low blood pressure nutrients and oxygen cannot reach certain vital parts of the body (the upper part of the body such as the brain). This makes these body parts deficient in Nutrients and oxygen. When body parts (e.g. brain) are deprived of oxygen, cells in that part will eventually die and cause dysfunction of body parts. This can eventually lead the Stroke and paralysis.

Water and the digestive system

Most of the mechanism of of digestion require water. In the first place, water is needed for the production of enough saliva for breaking down foods in the mouth and also helps to lubricate the food for easy swallowing. Apart from eating roughage, water also helps in proper breakdown of food in the stomach which prevents constipation. Emptying a constipated bowel can rupture a blood vessel around the anal region due to pressure exerted by the individual to bring out fecal matter. Aside constipation, water reduces the rate at which the stomach is destroyed by stomach fluids (Gastric Juice) by reducing its concentration.

Other importance of water includes;

  1. It Lubricate skeletal joints for easy movement of body parts.

  2. Some nutrients such as vitamins needs water in order to be taken into the body parts.

  3. Water plays a major role in losing unnecessary weight.

  4. Water can prevent certain illnesses such as kidney stones and urinary tract infections.

  5. Water boost your thinking capacity and sharpens your alertness.

  6. Proper skin formation requires a lot of water intake.

How much water do I need daily?

Males need more water than females because the muscles of males contains a lot of water unlike females whose muscles contain water and fat. Males should drink about 15 1/2 cups of water (125 ounces) daily and females should about 11 1/2 cups (91 ounces) daily.
