You made money your true friend not me!

If only we will have the ability to tell ourselves the truth about how we value and see money and people we call our friends, we will understand that we have really misunderstood the essence of humanity to mankind. Nothing matters to us all anymore, each time we are giving opportunity to make choice between money and human, you will see most of us if not all of us making money the best companion to life than human.

I am not writing this article to blame anybody it may affect, rather I am using this article to bring our consciences back to that right way of life and to also remind us to go back to that path to goodness and existence of love between you and I as a people which we have long forgotten.

Nothing has ever made sense any longer since we became too conscious and very anxious of money, we have sold our hearts of love and compassion and exchanged it with that heart of meanness, greed and selfish desires for material acquisitions.

Let me start this way, in that your environment, that your city or community where you meet people virtually every day, Infact from where I am coming from Nigeria, nothing is done free anymore, everything now must be paid for, hardly will your car spoil on the road and you call for help to push it away from the road and after the persons have helped you, you will be surprised to hear this, please anything for the boys? Even something that should be helped with ease, you will see that helper coming to negotiate price with you before they will help you push your car to a better place.  

Most times when you miss your way to where you are going, just to ask for a direction, you will be surprised that the person giving direction will ask you for something in return after giving you directions, I have experienced that myself severally in my country. Before now, all these were not there, you will be very glad to direct someone who lost his or her way to where he or she is going with joy knowing that you are doing a great work of love to that stranger you do not know.

Everything now is all about money, I was called this morning by a friend on phone and he was looking for a driver to hire for the period of two months and when he called me to look out for a good driver, I asked him how much for the driver's salary for a month and he said #20,000 naira monthly and when you change it to dollar is less than $50 dollars per month, I asked him why that low, he said the actual salary pay is #50,000 i.e $120 dollars, I was amazed why he cut that salary to that amount, he replied and said that he was the one that got the contact and he must have his own percentage, I got angry because I know that the level of the country economy is and the hardship in the country, the actual salary will not take care of his problems even if they pay him $120 dollars considering the job specification, so why will he now cut the money to that amount, why not allow the potential driver to take the actual salary since he is not the one to do the job himself, why cutting the salary.

I could see the greed oozing out from his attitude and character he displayed. This is what we have come to see in this world in recent time, people no longer have conscience to know what is good from bad, everything is now making money even when it affects your own, you do not care and you will do all you can to make sure you make your living at the expense of another man's sufferings.

Even those we trust today to protect us, those that said police is your friend have turned against us, today being 20th October, 2021 we remember the massacre of lives and destruction of properties during the #Endsars protest one year ago in Lagos and Nigeria at large, because of money and selfish desires of people, those people that killed innocent citizens during the protest have not been brought to book till today, even when the panel of enquiry that was constituted came up with their investigations and findings, yet up till now they have never brought anybody to justice, and still the police is busy brutalising the citizens every day up till now, when you report your case to police, they must collect money from you before they listen to your complain and take action.

I know it's not only in Nigeria that we witness these kinds of things, other countries and individuals have experienced this type of incidents in their different countries but I want to ask, is money so important than life? Does it matter most than our friendship?

Many situations that have made one to choose money more than his or her fellow human are abound in our world today and we should start now to retrace our steps back to the origin of mankind. The essence of life is not attached solely to money or material things, rather to humans relationship with one another which is love, compassion, peace of heart and mind, showing kindness to one another and being your brother's keeper at all times. Let's change our world!
