You can be the first of you to do you (not what you are thinking)
With so much noise, coming from every direction in various formats, it is easy to get lost. It becomes easy to get influenced and lose yourself. Not something to be proud of.
It is great to know what is trending, what is it that people are liking. It feels good to feel like you are a part of a community. I do know the feeling. The biggest cost that one pays for it although is to bury your true self deep down inside yourself.
We are social beings. We survived so many years of evolution because we are stronger together. So wanting to do things to make people around us happy, and to feel like you know what's happening with your community is totally understandable.
There is nothing wrong with being aware of what ticks your loved ones. Your friends, family and neighbors, acquaintances. It is somewhere on the lines of dig your well before you are thirsty.
It's a good thing. Social support is the backbone of us and our society.
While you are in the whole process of partying with everyone and going with the communal flow remember to stop every once in a while.
Breaks are very important. Taking breaks ensures the reprogramming of our brains and gives us the necessary time required to filter through the noise. It's the most successful way to come back to ourselves.
Have you ever been in a situation where you randomly start saying things that don't align with your personality but because of the constant inputs, you start camouflaging the vibe of other people. Hence losing yourself in the process. And, later being unsure of why you did what you did.
This is the reason why giving your a break every once in a while or as often as necessary is important. It will make sure that no matter how long do communal festivities last, you will still be you.. Uniformly throughout.
The biggest reason why we get into the whole camouflage mode is that we want to be accepted. Our need for social acceptance is so strong that we make sure to adopt a personality that we know for sure will be welcomed by most, if not all.
We see things from the very start. Human beings are very keen observers. So we end up profiling the reactions to all actions that take place around us. It is very involuntary.
These observations start to frame our camouflage personality traits. If we do this, this will happen, and so on. Thinking of our earlier observations as guarantees. Sadly, it doesn't work like that.
No two people are the same, no two situations are the same. Hence no two reactions are the same. Think of it this way, if an 80s hit song was to come out now, there would be a very thin chance of it hitting the charts.
So instead of experimenting with so-called guarantees that we created as a child, why not give our own personality a chance and be the person that we were meant to be throughout.
The world has no guarantee. The people in it have the least of them all. Adding to that our limited lifespan, why not chose to give the world, and our community to know us. The person that we are. Our true self.
Our original personality is priceless.
So next time before doing something stop for a moment, and think, do I really want to do this? Is this how I want to do this? Do I care about doing this? Is there a different way in which I would like to do it?
Give yourself a chance to know yourself better. You are the first and only one of you. You are unique.
