As i am an agricultural engineer today i am discussed about post harvest technology of agricultural crop which is very essential for agricultural crop.
Post harvest technology is a technology which include interdisciplinary science and technique applied to agricultural crops after harvest its production, conservation, processing, packaging, distribution, marketing and utilization to meet the food and nutritional requirements of the people in relation to their needs.
Why post harvest technology need for crops -
It helps to grain good quality product.
It helps to preserve it for many days.
It helps to get handsome money.
It helps to prevent post harvest losses.
It helps to get new market.
It helps to improve Nutrition values.
Three main objective of post harvest technology-
To maintain product quality
To protect food safety.
To reduce losses. (both physical and market value)
Some steps of post harvest technology are-
Harvesting.
Precooling after harvest.
Cleaning or Disinfecting.
Sorting and Grading.
Packaging.
Storage.
Transportation.
Refrigeration Storage.
