The ECB claims to value transparency over privacy with their design of a digital currency. In reality it is all about control, control of your money, control of your choices, control of what you can and cannot purchase with your own money. This I believe is why CBDCs are doomed to fail. No more paying a local youth to mow your lawn or clean your windows, no more purchases at the market.
