An old church sits idle on Dalkey Island off the coast of Dublin bay, Ireland. The island is no longer inhabited by humans and has acted as a bird and goat sanctuary for over 220 years. The island is a very important historical site where there is evidence of continuous stettlements from the Mesolithic period through to the Early Christian period. The name Dalkey or Dalk Eyja comes from the viking era when Viking settlements once inhabited the Island and meaning Thorn Island as the island is shaped like a Thorn #Travel #photography
