As I write this, I know I have made many mistakes in life. It is also easier to remember our mistakes than our mistakes. It is easier to pay attention to what we have not done right than to what we have done well.
My question now is: Why do people make mistakes? Wait, what mistakes are we referring to? We have mistakes in our exams, right? Not perfect in the exam because there are wrong answers. There is something wrong with the misuse of something. There are many kinds of mistakes but what I want to focus on is moral sin. What are the reasons why a person sins? Just a few points I will raise.
Division
There are mistakes made by other divisions or sects. It depends on them what is right and what is wrong. We have a so-called ‘black and white’ error - is that you know it is wrong even if you do not read the Bible. One of these is murder. There are religions that say that is not wrong. But do you think it was right to kill someone? As well as having multiple wives, when did this work become sacred? There are things that are wrong that others do right.
Defense
You make mistakes that you say are small so it's okay. Examples include cheating during exams, snatching five pesos, swearing, shouting, telling ‘green jokes’, and much more. One kind of defense is to look straight at the obvious. An example of this is having sex before marriage. Some people say that it is okay because you do not hurt others or you will not get married either or because that is the trend. No matter what the defense, sin is still sin.
Decision
For me, this is the worst reason why people sin. Many say there is no ‘choice’ so that is what has been done. It hurts to think that, regardless of our situation, we have the freedom to choose for ourselves what we should do. It may be that you have a beak or that you have a degree or that you are just being instructed or you may be tempted, whatever your reason, you have to think about whether you are right or wrong or choose.
I'm just human, I make mistakes too. This is a famous saying of us Filipinos. But as human beings, we also have the knowledge of what is right and what is wrong and the freedom to choose the first. Whatever your division, defense or decision, may we learn from our past mistakes. Let us remember that every decision we make in life has an equal reward or punishment. Above all, we have a God we can approach at all times - the wisdom of choosing the right and the forgiveness of sins committed.
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; if the gods of your fathers served on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. -Joshua 24:15
Mistakes are lessons that need to be learned. No one succeed without failures.
