I do not always agree with the approach of these two guys, Jason and Ben Gutterman of Amagansett Press and Watching the Watchman. I find them often to be a bit more confrontational than I prefer. However, in the United States we are governed by a VERY important document which gives the PEOPLE, not law enforcement, and not the government our inalienable rights as citizens. Some people in other parts of the world find arrogance in people having the power. But here, we take these rights extremely serious. Their exercising and documenting the exercising of their rights put one thing on display. Many people even in our own country are not aware of what their rights actually are, and are not aware that no one—not even law enforcement—has the right to ever violate them. A badge and a gun and legally provided authority only affords the authority to administer the law within the Constitution of the United States. In our country abuse of authority, and failure to uphold the Constitution, and the violation of Constitutional rights is punishable by the people. Our government and our law enforcement do not hold absolute authority over we the people. And again, while I do not always agree with the tactics nor the demeanor of Jason and Ben, they are still operating within the law and sometimes provide an interesting and I will admit, entertaining example of those in "power" who make an effort to abuse it. As Jason likes to say, "Rights are like muscles. If you don't exercise them they go away." There are many examples of countries around the world who can serve as examples of what happens when the people turn their power over to the government and to law enforcement. In a democratic republic such as we are in the United States, the government is there to serve the will of the PEOPLE, not the will of those who have power within the government. When law enforcement acts in a manner that does not FOLLOW the law, as the video shows, the PEOPLE can enforce their power OVER them because at the end of the day, the people have the power. RESPECT law enforcement. Do not take me the wrong way here. But only respect law enforcement that upholds the law and the Constitution.
