If you really want to be charitable in this world, stop thinking of it in terms of simply giving what you have away thinking that that is actually helpful. Don't give a dime, not a loaf of bread, not the shirt on your back. It provides no charity at all other than to perpetuate their current circumstance. In other words, they stay poor. They stay hungry. They stay shirtless. Your charity does not help them to better their current situation. It KEEPS them there. Instead, be charitable with what you know. Be charitable with what you have learned. Share that. Share your knowledge. Teach them. Guide them. Give them a chance to find the path that they are still looking for, that you have found. It will help a greater number of people in the long run.

Very true talk. It is more profitable to teach how to fish than giving out fish.
Absolutely. Feed a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime. It often confuses me that this is a Christian verse from the Bible, and yet they cling to food pantries like they are doing something good. They are not. Although, a famous American comedian had a slightly better take on this. He said, "Catch a man a fish and you can sell it to him. Teach a man to fish and you lose a wonderful business opportunity." That was from Groucho Marx.
