I don't often get revved up (pardon the pun) when it comes to IPO's. I have been in the stock market for enough years to know that often times IPO's are not always the best point of a buy in. But it of course depends on the company. Sometime next week the EV company Rivian, which is backed by Ford and Amazon will likely begin trading on the Nasdaq at an estimated value of about $60 billion. Part of what interests me in Rivian, as opposed to some of the other EV opportunities in the market, is the commercial use side of their business—which already includes Amazon to supply EV vehicles to their delivery fleet. This can open quite a lot of doors for the company, and when it comes to EV, at least for now, I think commercial use is more practical than personal use and presents a bit more upside in the short term. Their pick up truck, the R1T has so far met with very good fanfare and customer reviews, and while its styling does not appeal to me, it does appeal to others and that's all that matters. I also think there is a strong future potential for Ford to increase its 12% stake in the company if Rivian can prove to be a profitable contender in the EV space. It is not unlikely that I will initially invest between $5,000-$10,000 into the IPO since I see very good long term prospects for what they are doing, and the customer base that their vehicles will ultimately appeal to. The ticker symbol will be RIVN.
