I have long held the belief that the only person who ever gets anything out of a wishing well is the guy who cleans it out. lol

Yep I would say that’s pretty accurate, here in the UK the money thrown into wishing wells is now donated to charity but there’s still a few where the wishing well owner is cashing in on peoples wishes
