A German Shepherd rests after a 20-hour search for survivors among the wreckage of the World Trade Center in 2001 According to veterinarians, many of the service dogs involved in the search experienced stress and became depressed due to the fact that instead of living people, only corpses were found. To cheer them up a little and give them confidence, the experts asked several volunteers to hide among the wreckage so that the dogs decided that they had finally found at least one of the “survivors”.
