"A thousand times more powerful than competitors": Intel announced a new chip for mining. The new Intel chip should not only be several orders of magnitude more powerful than its competitors, but also less energy-consuming, the company says. Intel CEO Patrick Gelsinger told Bloomberg in an interview that the company plans to release a new GPU for mining cryptocurrencies as early as 2022. The processor is based on the SHA-256 algorithm, and its performance, as developers expect, will be a thousand times higher than the performance of any current chips. Explaining the company's desire to release a more powerful chip, Gelsinger said that now one entry in the blockchain consumes as much energy as it would be enough to power an entire house during the day. This, says the CEO, is a climate crisis. According to Cambridge University, the Bitcoin network currently consumes about 125 TWh of electricity per year. This is much more than most countries of the world consume individually. At the same time, the amount of energy needed for the Bitcoin network will only increase. According to Gelsinger, if the industry learns to make much more productive chips in the future, the crisis will be avoided. #btc #bitcoin #blockchain #ethereum #eth #cryptocurrency #business #binance #bitcoin #exchange
