Daily wildlife photography: the white-throated kingfisher, Halcyon smyrnensis. It was the first kingfisher I saw in Sri Lanka, and I wasn't expecting to find it here, in the middle of a coastal village. It was common to find them perched in wires, while I explored the surroundings. From what I read about the species, they can be found at a reasonable distance from water, and prey on invertebrates and small mammals too!
