Daily wildlife photography: the common tern, Sterna hirundo. These two birds were quietly perching on the peer, looking at the passengers coming and going. Common sterns have a black hood that goes all the way up to the beak's base; only in the winter plummage do they get a white forehead. Can't tell if this is a juvenile, or an adult already molting to the winter plummage. Nevertheless, I'm glad they posed for the photo!
