Pfff... Listening how one can pay with Bitcoin in El Salvador makes me dizzy. I can't even begin to explain how people entirely missed the point with custodial LN wallets and how Bitcoin was captured by the same establishment it was rendering obsolete. People (the overwhelming majority) fail to understand the problem Bitcoin is solving (was solving in the BTC version, still is with BCH). Custodial LN is not Bitcoin. Your funds in custodial LN can be frozen any time the company that runs the software wants. These custodial wallets didn't even exist even in 2017 when I joined Bitcoin. They only appeared later, probably in 2018. Custodial wallets are yet another attack on the foundations of cryptocurrencies. The banks are not an easy foe and indeed in the old days Bitcoin had just a handful of people, rather intelligent of course, but it was just a bunch of individuals acting against the interests of a centuries-old financial establishment. Today we have Bitcoin Core (or Bitcoin BTC) as the mainstream version, a version that does not work for anything the original intention described. Despite Satoshi's instructions on how to proceed with scaling, Core decided to choke the project and destroy the exponential adoption. The second layer solutions like the Lightning Network were proposed for the first time 8 years ago, as part of an agreement not to scale the blockchain by increasing the block size. They were supposed to scale Bitcoin without sacrificing decentralization, but failed miserably in doing so. Today LN is a total failure and everyone working on it does not believe it has a chance to succeed. Frankly, LN won't succeed even with custodials, simply because it is still less accessible than the banking payment systems.
