Freedom

The sun did shine. The past three months were three months of extreme stress. The only life I had was the one behind my phone screen - the one on Read.Cash and Reddit and others. The one that spoke of a sane individual, which I was not. Relationships that had hit the rocks, getting sick now and then, and avoiding any contact with the outside world due to the pandemic. And then one day it was all over. I stood at my door, hesitant to go out. I hadn't left my neighborhood since the beginning of the lockdown, so I didn't know what to expect. But I opened the door, and then I remembered what it felt like. Sunshine on my skin, the great breeze, and the chirping of the birds. I could feel the chill of the fresh morning breeze down my windpipe and into my lungs. Petrichor. The pleasantly refreshing earthy smell that reminded me of the rain that fell the previous day. The rain that washed away my depression. Heading out, I saw the cute faces of adults and children, all smiling and outgoing, celebrating their new-found freedom. Even with facemasks, their eyes glistened of untold joy and satisfaction. Of freedom that even these words could never express. Even the sleazy police officers with bribe hngry hands, looking for a victim to extort from did nothing to dampen my mood. For those minutes, I embraced joy, freedom and happiness. I embraced life. #Happy_Vibes
