A great match for the Netherlands after being out of the big tournaments for seven years. There were no goals in the first half and five goals in the second; the Dutch took a 2-0 lead, Ukraine drew 2-2 and the home side took the lead in the 85th (3-2).

As the clock ticked forward, Ukraine were feeling comfortable behind, and Frank de Boer’s boys took possession of the ball, but the home side’s first goal didn’t come until the 7th minute of the second half.

It was after a cross from Denzel Dumfries. Bushchan managed to keep the ball away, but Georginio Wijnaldum took advantage of the deflection and scored in the eleventh shot of the Dutch.

With the score on the sidelines and the warmth of the spectators at the Johan Cruyff Stadium in Amsterdam, it took the Netherlands six minutes to complete the second. Wout Weghorsten shot Andrei Shevchenko's door.

When Ukraine seemed to be giving up, veteran Andriy Yarmolenko appeared. He crossed the front of the area, found the angle and made a beautiful shot, passing Maarten Stekelenburg.

Yarmolenko called for a change after the goal, but by then his team had been revived, and two minutes later the equalizer was scored, with a Roman Yaremchuk header.

The surprise didn’t stop De Boer’s boys and they got the win thanks to a header from Denzel Dumfries.
