Europeans call Malaysia an Asain paradise, while Asians consider it the European corner of the eastern world. This is a state with a population of more than 30 nationalities, which shows miracles of tolerance in relations with each other and is surprisingly tolerant towards guests, no matter where they come from. Malays respect other people's traditions and honor their own customs. In the context of the intertwining of different cultures and religious confessions (Christianity, Buddhism, Islam), the state is striking in the absence of unrest on ethnic or religious grounds. Everyone who lives here considers Malaysia to be their home.
In a state where home and family are at the heart of the foundations, universal human values prevail. Without relying on them, it is impossible, as residents believe, to live a happy long life. Perhaps the Buddhist monks, who know the secrets of longevity here, will not agree with this, but they will never reveal their secrets to ordinary citizens. It is believed that two-thirds of Malays profess Islam, but Sharia law is not practiced here as strictly as in Arab countries or Turkey: the cultures of indigenous Indian peoples, immigrants from China, who today, not without pride, call themselves Malay citizens, are strongly mixed here.
A traveler may meet a woman here who will be tightly dressed from head to toe in black clothes, but this should not be attributed to a manifestation of extremist Islam, most likely a dark-skinned man dressed in all white will certainly be a little further away. Whole families of Arab tourists often come here, who rest here from their own scorching sun in all seasons. And although Islam remains the official religion in Malaysia, local young women do not wear the obligatory headscarves, because everything here depends and obeys family traditions and the peculiarities of upbringing. Islamic laws apply only to Muslims, while the rest of the non-Muslim population is subject to universal state laws.
Malaysia is one of the few eastern countries where mixed marriages are common and encouraged. Even Princess Amina married a Dutch footballer who converted to Islam. It is believed that alliances of peoples of different tribes are doomed if they are not built on friendship and kindness, without mutual respect. Malays are great family people as they create families to enjoy life. The family business is very developed here, and the Malays celebrate all holidays with relatives and children. Recently, a European wind “blew” in the ceremony of registration of marriage relations: the newlyweds of Kay-El (as the metropolis of Kuala Lumpur is called in the English manner) make marital vows to each other in motion of the Ferris wheel "Eye of Malaysia”.
And yet, the modernity of multi-lane highways, domes of skyscrapers and millions of armies of tourists, Malaysia in many ways remains aprovincial Asian state, where in an incomprehensible way Western technical perfection is combined with mysterious Eastern mysticism.
