States in Nigerian ; General Yakubu Gowon created 12 states in nigeria , in the year 1967 , may 27. On the 3rd of February 1976 , General Murtala Mohammed increased the state from 12 - 19. On the 23rd of September 1987 , IBB created two more states to make 21. On the 27th August 1991, General Ibrahim babagida created more 9 more states. On the 1st of October 1996 , Gen. Sanni abacha announced the creation of 6more states. Nigeria is made up of 36 states and FCT Abuja. Big towns that made up Nigeria; Lagos Ibadan Enugu Kaduna Kano Aba. Ethnic groups in Nigeria ; Hausa, yoruba, igbo , ora , kanuri, esan, egun, shawa, idoma, Tiv, Nupe , igala , Efik , Angas, Ekoi , Gwari, Urhobo , itsekiri, jukun,ibibio, bura, borgu,fulani, bini,ijaw, and birom.
