THE GREATEST INHERITANCE

🔑📖KEY VERSE: *"But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the LORD God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them" (Joshua 13:33).*
Charles Chaplin, who died at age 88, left the United States Senate with four statements, one of which is "Nothing is eternal in this world, not even our problems". The rate at which known ministers of God are dropping their calling nowadays calls for concern. Some complain that they are not being taken care of by the leadership of their churches; others say that they are losing out so much in the world when compared to the social and financial status of their classmates.
The decision of Moses as directed by God to allot no inheritance to the Levites was not a mistake. He knew they had been given a special task and they needed not to be distracted. The tribe of Levi served particular religious duties for the Israelites and had political and educational responsibilities as well. In return, the landed tribes were expected to give tithes to support the Levites. It was expressly stated that "the LORD God of Israel was their inheritance".
Their job was to minister to the spiritual needs of Israel in teaching and administering sacrifices to God on behalf of the people. They were thus relieved of dealing with the things of the world in order to focus all their attention on the spiritual needs of the nation of Israel. Many believers have not discovered the real essence of their calling, hence the much attachment to the things of the world.
Believers must be careful not to mix spiritual things with worldly pleasure. We must be wary of anything that has the tendency of blighting the call of God on us.

*MEDITATION*
*What should be the Christian most preferred inheritance?*
*1. The priests' bequeathed inheritance*
a. All the tribes of Israel, except Levites, were given landed possessions with all the minerals, fruits and blessings therein.
b. God was the possession of the Levites, v38.
c. What does this mean?
i. It means they have inherited God and all that God has in heaven and on earth👍
ii. They had the exclusive privilege to serve at the tabernacle and sacrifice on behalf of all Israel - a privilege which even their kings did not have.
iii. They had special access to God at all times.
iv. God speaks to them and reveals His mind to them first before most Israelites.
v. They are the mouthpiece of God to people.
vi. They had special privilege to know the mind of God and release it to men.
Read Malachi 2:4-7 for the summary.
d. Note that this did not preclude them from having land and other good things of life. In fact, the fact that God was their inheritance was indicative that all that God has, including earthly blessings, belong to them too. So the priesthood confered on them special status and additional advantages🤷♂️
*2. The pious blessed inheritance*
a. The Christians of today are the priests of God, I Peter 2:9, Revelation 1:6.
b. Check up if you are fulfilling your ministry as shown in Malachi 2:4-7.
c. More than the OT priests, He has bequeathed to us "all things that pertain to life and godliness", 2 Peter 1:2,3. Both heavenly and earthly blessings are for believers while the world has access to only earthly blessings.
d. Like priests, our main preoccupation and pursuit should be the service of God and not earthly things, hence comparison with earthly people does not make sense, Romans 12:1-3.
e. However, if we seek God and His glory as priority and all in all, God will not deny His own the blessings of this life, Matthew 6:33. "Seek *first* the kingdom of God..and all things will be added" and never the other way round as many churchgoers do🤷♂️

Lord, teach me to appreciate the special privilege of being a saint and to live up to expectation🙏
Lord, teach me to be going deeper in consecration and love for God🙏
Help me to prosper in the work you assign me as a priest of God🙏
Lord, redirect and refocus all the brethren towards the priority of service to you above all else 🙏
