With time you eventually learn to see your own way and leave others behind without too many regrets. You learn to choose yourself and respect yourself enough to stop knocking on the same closed door you stubbornly keep knocking on in the hope that you will get what you expect. In fact, you learn to stop expecting anything from anyone. People manage to pleasantly surprise you when you have no expectations from them. Otherwise, the disappointment is directly proportional to the expectation. You learn to take each person in your life as such and gradually move away when you no longer find yourself in a place, in a person. You learn to replace sadness with optimism, thinking that all bad is for good and that the sadness you feel today is just the prelude to a better tomorrow. But it is not easy to learn all this. And you don't learn from one day to another. First you suffer like crazy for every man you no longer identify with. After a while they become past, and you gradually learn to leave them there.
