Fingers Crossed Luck *"I need help! Please! Help me" Johnny called out* Some men at the construction site who heard his distress call quickly ran towards him to assist and on getting to him, they saw a teenage boy pinned under a fallen heavy metal beam, his leg trapped by the beam. The men quickly joined forces to lift off the beam of him and carefully helped him stand up but he couldn't as his legs were badly bruised. So they took him immediately to a nearby hospital where a doctor quickly examined him. When the doctor finished examining Johnny, he went to ask him about his parents but he told the doctor that he had none. "You are severely injured. Who will take care of you and your medical bills?" the doctor asked, putting some bandages around his leg for him to wear. Thinking about his whole life, Johnny realized he has been unlucky. From one foster home to another, he always ran for his life. Every night before he sleeps anywhere life takes him, he cries and keeps his fingers crossed for good luck. Will it ever work? He also thought. "Please sir, will you take care of me and when I am okay I will leave please. I have no place to go."Johnny pleaded with the doctor. The doctor, unsure of his decision, went to speak to the men who brought him to the hospital but the nurse at the reception told him they were all gone. Heart pained with what just happened he called his wife to tell her what had just happened. Johnny looked out at the window and saw the doctor on the phone. He kept his fingers crossed literally as he believes that it is his good luck charm. Few moments later, the doctor came in, sat down close to him and asked if he would willingly go home with him. On hearing that, Johnny's mood lightened up. His prayers had been answered, how lucky is he? He thought. They both got into the car and drove to the doctor's house so he could tend to his wounds properly. As they got to the doctor's house, Johnny was taken to a room in the basement that was filled with machines and other equipment. This was not an ordinary room though. It was a surgical theater. He was now lying on one of the tables as the doctor started to disinfect his wound. He could feel something wet and cold on his skin and then there was an intense burning pain on his leg. Johnny screamed as he felt himself being moved on the table. The doctor gave him some morphine to try to alleviate the pain. As Johnny closed his eyes from the pain, he thought to himself, 'Maybe today wasn't such a bad day after all.' He felt relieved that things didn't turn out too bad, then he drifted away in a deep sleep. After recovering his energy, he made his way up to the main level of the house leaping. When he reached the door to the hallway, he noticed that it was slightly open. He opened the door slowly and peeked inside. To his surprise, he found the doctor and his wife having breakfast. He happily thanked them for saving and sheltering him. After thanking them he requested to leave and that he felt better, but the doctor wanted Johnny to stay a little longer. The doctor's wife invited Johnny to join them for breakfast and it was a peaceful day for him. The next morning Johnny woke up in his new room, a bed, clothes, everything he needed and a note saying he can stay there and be part of their family. He then dressed himself and left his room, he looked around his new living space and thought "What a beautiful home". He walked through the house checking each door and looking outside every window and saw the house was surrounded with sunflowers and daffodils. He pinched himself to confirm if he was dreaming but it was all real and his new reality from henceforth.
