The Count of Monte Cristo

Edmond Dantes: I don't believe in God. Abbe Faria: It doesn't matter. He believes in you. **The Count of Monte Cristo** is the book that defines a perfect revenge novel. Though it is a great classic novel about much more than revenge with modern themes like- humor, wit and was very enjoyable to read. It is a big book and Dumas does everything in a grand style. All of his characters are larger than life. This novel explores these themes: revenge, justice and God's will, happiness, love and identity. The novel starts out with a scenic over-look of an Italian waterway in Marseilles as it carries along a lofty ship named Pharaon with one passenger in particular who is unlike any other named *Edmond* *Dantè.* A dashing young and honest man dawning with potential who has just returned with news that will change the course of his life and the lives of many others forever. Later, he was falsely accused of traitorous activity and is sentenced to life on a prison located on an island off the coasts of Marseilles forcing him to leave behind his family, friends and the love of his life, *Mercédès*. In the case of *Abbé Faria* (my most favourite character), Dumas portrays an old man who is truly unforgettable. He plays a great role not only in the life of *Edmond Dantès*, but also the lives of his lover, best friend, family and even his partners from his shipping company. Every event and dialogue in this book is worth mentioning! Many things in the book are my favorite but I'm giving you a part of them:- *My Dear Maximilian,—* *...* *There is neither happiness nor misery in the world; there is only the comparison of one state with another, nothing more.* *...* *"Live, then, and be happy, beloved children of my heart, and never forget that until the day when God shall deign to reveal the future to man, all human wisdom is summed up in these two words,—'Wait and hope.'—Your friend,* *Edmond Dantes, Count of Monte Cristo.* This book has also been used as the script of a movie. You can watch that too but I think everyone should read this book at least once.
