Octopus Stinkhorn What looks like the hatching of Cthulhu is actually an Australian fungus. It hatches from an egglike substance and pollinates through flies. It is because of this that scientists think it has evolved to resemble decaying flesh, because that attracts flies. Also, it apparently completes the disguise by smelling of rotting meat.
