The oppressed. Rona is one of eight siblings who, due to poverty, stayed with her aunt in Metro Manila. He was only thirteen years old at the time but had been given almost all the household chores: cleaning, washing dishes, cooking, laundry, ironing, shopping and so on. The aunt has five children, a girl and four boys who seem to be señorita and señorito since Rona met them. The eldest daughter, Evelyn, was in her early 20's, still rubbing her armpits and back every time she took a bath. Even her own underwear is Rona doing the laundry. The three men, except for one, were just as commanding, always shouting or angry. When Rona was cleaning the floor, her cousins would not even take off their shoes when she arrived. Rona seemed to be getting annoyed as she passed in front of her kneeling and bowing down, applying floor wax. He would often throw his jeans at Rona and shout “Oh, wash that! When it dries, will you iron it? !! It was a vacation. Rona does her job almost every day: cleaning, saing, washing, ironing. Cousin's jeans are even heavier. They made him a laundress. Rona is not considered a relative. When cousins have visiting friends, acquaintances or helpers introduce him. At the dinner table, Rona was the waitress. He is not accompanied by food, always late, even though the dining table is long. What is left is all he can eat. Four times a week their fish is hard-boiled. Rona can only eat bloated head. That's what his aunt always left him. In Rona's cheap body, she did not care about the hard work and lack of food with her aunt. He is a slave-rice. The important thing is that he continues to study at Pasig High School. He always walks home to Pasig and Pateros which are about four kilometers away. He had no pocket-money, no snack, always hungry. When he got home, even though he was tired and hungry, he had to wash the pots and dishes piled up in the sink before he could eat. Often, he would just fall asleep and his cousins would shout at him. “Hey, iron the jeans first! ‘The polo!’ Rona lived and served her aunt for two years. When he finished high school, his brother took him to Cebu City. Rona continued her education, became an academic scholar and graduated with honors - Magna cum laude. He studied again, completed three courses and became a Doctor of Education. She was able to marry a lawyer. Rona is now a successful educator and businesswoman. He is now a millionaire and happy with three children and a loving wife. Who would have thought that the former oppressed would have been a successful, respected person in a high society? The cousins in him who were oppressed were uneducated, still life did not progress. Others have been able to marry the hardships of life as well. Lesson: *Be patient and try to finish school no matter what the circumstances of life. *The person who works hard and strives for life has a successful future. *Do not retaliate against those who do bad things to you. *Just pass them on to God and move on with your life. #ShortStories
