Is kaingin or mountain farming really bad? As a citizen of the Philippines, I also know that cutting down trees is really bad, especially in the mountains. But as a farmer's son since my childhood this is what I see in my father. In order to plant in their mountain land, the trees here need to be cut down in order the sun will shine to the plants they will plant. Because plants cannot survive without sunlight. When I was a child I once went to the mountains where my father's farm was. He has crops of sweet potatoes, bananas, vegetables and various root crops. But now, that farm is covered with big trees again because my father left it. The mountain will not die if you just cut down a few trees for the farm, don't really burn the mountain because when it is burned, the grass and trees will grow for a long time because even its seeds will be burned.
