Today is World Oceans Day. In my life, I was lucky  to visit one of them, the Indian Ocean, in town Kanyakumari (India). The uniqueness of Kanyakumari is that it is located at the extreme southern point of the globe. At this point, the Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal merge together. When I learned that today is the Day of the Oceans, I immediately remembered priest Fyodor Konyukhov, a Russian traveler. I read his book, "The Solo Narrative: The Traveler's Diaries". The book focuses on reflections of author, while he rowing a rowboat across the Pacific Ocean. The book doesn't say much about the journey itself, although, of course, there are interesting sketches, but a lot of reflections, which interested me in the first place. What does a person live and think about when he breaks away from civilization for a long time? Reading is incredibly interesting and sometimes scary, I started to try this experience on myself and think, how would I endure complete loneliness, being torn off the ground for a long time. I think the priest is protected by his strong faith in God, the grace of the priesthood and the prayers of his relatives about him. I would like to show you some interesting quotes from the book. "A person is cramped to live on our planet and he is looking for ways out in science, travel, art, etc., but he can not, or rather, not everyone can break away from home life and free himself from material dependence."
