The importance of time in society

The time we live in is one of the most influential and technologically advanced periods of human history. The way we spend our time has changed significantly over the last century, as there are more technological distractions than ever before. With so many ways to entertain ourselves, it's easy to forget that life isn't just about having fun.

There are a lot of other things going on in the world that need attention--things like work, school, and family obligations. And while these things can be important for us individually as well as society at large, they don't always get enough attention because they're not as much fun or exciting as entertainment options like social media or video games. In this article, I will explore how today's culture affects people's attitudes toward time.

This Is Your Life

While the concept of having a good time is extremely important to our society, we don't necessarily put a lot of thought into what the idea of a good time is or how we should go about achieving it.

Today, hanging out with friends and family is usually considered a good time. We also enjoy hobbies or activities like sports and arts because they're fun and entertaining for us, but we don't put as much thought into how these types of hobbies fit into our lives overall.

John Lennon famously said that life is what happens while you're busy making other plans, and I feel like this is indicative of the way many people spend their time. We don't always take into account how our activities fit into a larger context, and we move from one fun thing to another without considering whether or not they'll have lasting effects on us as individuals or society as a whole.

Technology's effect on society has made it easier than ever before for people to multitask. However, this can lead to distractions that prevent you from being present in the moment. This idea of being distracted by technology isn't necessarily negative thought because having access to these things today has its advantages.

Connecting With Others

One great thing about living in a technologically advanced world is that it creates new ways for people to interact with one another.

Social media is a great example of this, as it allows people to stay in touch with friends and family even if they're far away from one another or don't get to talk on the phone very often. This is especially important for US military members serving overseas, who can still communicate with their families through social media despite being deployed and unable to call them directly.

I think there's a lot of value in these types of interactions, but sometimes it's easy to overthink how much importance they should have in our lives since we tend to view social media through the lens of entertainment instead of communication. And while some people might not care about how others view their activity on Twitter or Facebook, knowing that your actions can have a big impact on how people view you and the image you portray to the world is something worth thinking about.

Time As Money

The idea of time as money is also becoming more common, especially in areas like business, technology, and academia where there's a lot of importance placed on busyness.  Since we tend to value efficiency and effectiveness over everything else these days, this mentality lends itself to viewing time as an expendable resource that should be used only for important tasks instead of leisure activities because they're not considered as valuable.

But when some people see time as a finite resource rather than something that can be given freely or saved up for the future, it becomes harder for them to find meaning in their lives outside what society tells them should be important.

Final Thoughts

I think that the way people generally view time as a finite resource can affect their attitudes and expectations toward future events in their lives.  For example, if you find yourself constantly busy with work or school commitments, you may feel frustrated at not having enough time for something like going on a vacation with friends or spending time with family.

And if these kinds of frustrations become too frequent they can lead to anxiety or stress over the idea that life is passing by faster than we'd like it to. In this case, instead of taking a step back from your responsibilities to reassess priorities and set goals for the types of things you want to do moving forward, you might continue pushing yourself without thinking whether or not you're happy with your life.

Because when I think about my own attitude toward time, I tend to feel like there are two conflicting beliefs I have about how it should be used. One of them is the belief that doing something fun in the present moment can be incredibly satisfying even if it doesn't contribute to my academic or professional life (which seems to contradict our society's idea of time as a finite resource).

The other belief is that sitting around too much without being productive can lead to inaction and frustration, which is why I try to balance out my leisure activities with things like working on writing projects and reading books for school.

I think there are many positive aspects and negative aspects that come from living in a technologically advanced society. The positive outcomes usually involve an aspect of connectedness, while the negative ones tend to cause anxiety over wasting time, feeling overwhelmed by the responsibilities of work, or feeling lonely despite the presence of social media.

End Game = Einstein

Overall, I think that time is a valuable resource we should all make an effort to value so we can spend it wisely and find happiness in our lives.

Finding balance is a challenge. Also, we wanted to fit everything at once in a short span of time that we end up getting stressed and frustrated.

To connect with family and friends has never been easier and there are a lot of free ways we can do that. I remember when I was a child we had one landline phone in the family and of course mobile phones and internet did not exist.

Everybody has the same amount of time every day which is 24 hours. Priority is very important in what we do and when. We tend to waste time on unnecessary things, while more important ones are neglected.
