MARCDE tries to hug TELES but he shakes him off. **MARCDE** Please Teles, don't leave me. **TELES** I'm sorry Marcde, but I'm looking for somebody a bit more brave. Somebody who faces his fears head on, instead of running away. **MARCDE** I am such a person! TELES frowns. **TELES** I'm sorry, Marcde. I just don't feel excited by this relationship anymore. TELES leaves. MARCDE sits down, looking defeated. Moments later, optimistic swordsman PROF ANCIENT STONE barges in looking flustered. **MARCDE** Goodness, Ancient! Is everything okay? **ANCIENT** I'm afraid not. **MARCDE** What is it? Don't keep me in suspense... **ANCIENT** It's ... a lion ... I saw an evil lion attack a bunch of swimmers! **MARCDE** Defenseless swimmers? **ANCIENT** Yes, defenseless swimmers! **MARCDE** Bloomin' heck, Ancient! We've got to do something. **ANCIENT** I agree, but I wouldn't know where to start. **MARCDE** You can start by telling me where this happened. **ANCIENT** I was... ANCIENT fans himself and begins to wheeze. **MARCDE** Focus Ancient, focus! Where did it happen? **ANCIENT** Sydney Opera House! That's right - Sydney Opera House! MARCDE springs up and begins to run. EXT. A ROAD - CONTINUOUS MARCDE rushes along the street, followed by ANCIENT. They take a short cut through some back gardens, jumping fences along the way. INT. SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE - SHORTLY AFTER CAIN QUEST a creepy lion terrorises two swimmers. MARCDE, closely followed by ANCIENT, rushes towards CAIN, but suddenly stops in his tracks. **ANCIENT** What is is? What's the matter? **MARCDE** That's not just any old lion, that's Cain Quest! **ANCIENT** Who's Cain Quest? **MARCDE** Who's Cain Quest? Who's Cain Quest? Only the most creepy lion in the universe! **ANCIENT** Blinkin' knickers, Marcde! We're going to need some help if we're going to stop the most creepy lion in the universe! **MARCDE** You can say that again. **ANCIENT** Blinkin' knickers, Marcde! We're going to need some help if we're going to stop the most creepy lion in the universe! **MARCDE** I'm going to need guns, lots of guns. Cain turns and sees Marcde and Ancient. He grins an evil grin. **CAIN** Marcde Mesel, we meet again. **ANCIENT** You've met? **MARCDE** Yes. It was a long, long time ago... EXT. A PARK - BACK IN TIME A young MARCDE is sitting in a park listening to some reggae music, when suddenly a dark shadow casts over him. He looks up and sees CAIN. He takes off his headphones. **CAIN** Would you like some barley sugar? MARCDE's eyes light up, but then he studies CAIN more closely, and looks uneasy. **MARCDE** I don't know, you look kind of creepy. **CAIN** Me? No. I'm not creepy. I'm the least creepy lion in the world. **MARCDE** Wait, you're a lion? MARCDE runs away, screaming. INT. SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE - PRESENT DAY **CAIN** You were a coward then, and you are a coward now. **ANCIENT** (To MARCDE) You ran away? **MARCDE** (To ANCIENT) I was a young child. What was I supposed to do? MARCDE turns to CAIN. **MARCDE** I may have run away from you then, but I won't run away this time! MARCDE runs away. He turns back and shouts. MARCDE I mean, I am running away, but I'll be back - with guns. CAIN I'm not scared of you. MARCDE You should be. EXT. A BOOK SHOP - LATER THAT DAY MARCDE and ANCIENT walk around searching for something. MARCDE I feel sure I left my guns somewhere around here. ANCIENT Are you sure? It does seem like an odd place to keep deadly guns. MARCDE You know nothing Ancient Stone. ANCIENT We've been searching for ages. I really don't think they're here. Suddenly, CAIN appears, holding a pair of guns. CAIN Looking for something? ANCIENT Crikey, Marcde, he's got your guns. MARCDE Tell me something I don't already know! ANCIENT The earth's circumference at the equator is about 40,075 km. MARCDE I know that already! ANCIENT I'm afraid of sausages. CAIN (appalled) Dude! While CAIN is looking at ANCIENT with disgust, MARCDE lunges forward and grabs his deadly guns. He wields them, triumphantly. MARCDE Prepare to die, you creepy parsnip! CAIN No please! All I did was attack a bunch of swimmers! TELES enters, unseen by any of the others. MARCDE I cannot tolerate that kind of behaviour! Those swimmers were defenceless! Well now they have a defender - and that's me! Marcde Mesel defender of innocent swimmers. CAIN Don't hurt me! Please! MARCDE Give me one good reason why I shouldn't use these guns on you right away! CAIN Because Marcde, I am your father. MARCDE looks stunned for a few moments, but then collects himself. MARCDE No you're not! CAIN Ah well, it had to be worth a try. CAIN tries to grab the guns but MARCDE dodges out of the way. MARCDE Who's the daddy now? Huh? Huh? Unexpectedly, CAIN slumps to the ground. ANCIENT Did he just faint? MARCDE I think so. Well that's disappointing. I was rather hoping for a more dramatic conclusion, involving my deadly guns. MARCDE crouches over CAIN's body. ANCIENT Be careful, Marcde. It could be a trick. MARCDE No, it's not a trick. It appears that... It would seem... Cain Quest is dead! MARCDE What? MARCDE Yes, it appears that I scared him to death. ANCIENT claps his hands. ANCIENT So your guns did save the day, after all. TELES steps forward. TELES Is it true? Did you kill the creepy lion? MARCDE Teles how long have you been...? TELES puts his arm around MARCDE. TELES Long enough. MARCDE Then you saw it for yourself. I killed Cain Quest. TELES Then the swimmers are safe? MARCDE It does seem that way! A crowd of vulnerable swimmers enter, looking relived. TELES You are their hero. The swimmers bow to MARCDE. MARCDE There is no need to bow to me. I seek no worship. The knowledge that Cain Quest will never attack swimmers ever again, is enough for me. TELES You are humble as well as brave! One of the swimmers passes MARCDE a tinkling pendant TELES I think they want you to have it, as a symbol of their gratitude. MARCDE I couldn't possibly. Pause. MARCDE Well, if you insist. MARCDE takes the pendant. MARCDE Thank you. The swimmers bow their heads once more, and leave. MARCDE turns to TELES. MARCDE Does this mean you want me back? TELES Oh, Marcde, of course I want you back! MARCDE smiles for a few seconds, but then looks defiant. MARCDE Well you can't have me. TELES WHAT? MARCDE You had no faith in me. You had to see my scare a lion to death before you would believe in me. I don't want a lover like that. TELES But... MARCDE Please leave. I want to spend time with the one person who stayed with me through thick and thin - my best friend, Ancient. ANCIENT grins. TELES But... ANCIENT You heard the gentleman. Now be off with you. Skidaddle! Shoo! TELES Marcde? MARCDE I'm sorry Teles, but I think you should skidaddle. TELES leaves. ANCIENT turns to MARCDE. ANCIENT Did you mean that? You know ... that I'm your best friend? MARCDE Of course you are! The two walk off arm in arm. Suddenly ANCIENT stops. ANCIENT When I said I'm afraid of sausages, you know I was just trying to distract the lion don't you?
