Party List or Porky List I heard on the radio about a discussion of radio announcers about party lists in the Philippines. Both of them agree that the party-list system has many flaws that must be addressed. First, let's talk about the party-list system. The Party-list system represents "marginalized sectors" or groups that receive less attention in the society like labor groups, youth, indigenous people, etc. This system is based on the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines. Back to the discussion of the two radio announcers. I will point out only some of their conversations. 1. The 1987 Constitution of the Philippines was failed and need to change 2. Politicians abused the power of the party-list system (used as a political vehicle) 3. Most of the leaders/members of the party lists do not represent marginalized sectors (no connection) 4. The two announcers called it porky list because it's like a "big fat pig of corruption (Pork barrel before)". 5. Some party lists are always rallying. (Rather than rallying, offer a solution or suggestion.) 6. Party-list groups a balimbing system. Support at first then Throw you in the end 7. Party List has no essence or motives nowadays, they only make a group and get a position on the congress. In my opinion: Right now, there are more than 70+ filed for a party-list position and 15%-20% of the house of representative came from the party list (correct me if I'm wrong). What the heck is party-list right now? For celebrities, For Rallies, To Gain attention, To get a seat or Just a troll. Since college (I became a registered voter) - I don't see any use most of the party list in congress. They are very active in elections and rallies, but I believe that the majority of them have failed to pass legislation or make policies related to the sector that they represent. Is the party-list system becoming a clown system?
