Yesterday afternoon, we visited again one of the elders we have at church. Months ago, we visited them for a double purpose that is to attend his wife's birthday and also to comfort them as they go through a life challenge that involved the husband's health.
A month ago, news spread in their barangay that the husband died already. He had difficulty in breathing and he has a heart problem. He went through a difficult time last month to the point that the whole family thought that it was time for him to leave. He can't seem to cope up even when he was supported with oxygen. He even called all his grandkids to come over and told them to be good. The funniest thing was that his son told him to hold on while he rushed to fetched the pastor.
But God's plan prevailed. After weeks of medication, the husband is back again at his normal self. He can now sit without the tank of oxygen beside him and he can walk around the house without gasping for breath. It was God's miracle manifested in his life. The family never thought that their 73 year old father would recover from that near-death experience. Now, they are going home after months of staying at his child's abode. His neighbors back home would be surprised and delighted to see him alive knowing that in previous weeks he was rumored dead.
Look at that. Seeing his face, you can't see a hint that he had gone through a difficult experience weeks ago. His strength was made new by God and he was healed. His life is extended and God knows how many days we all have that is left. Maybe God has something to do for this man and He isn't finished yet. Maybe God wants us to tell people of His wondrous works prevailed in this man's life.
The woman in violet is his wife. His left eye was removed because of cataract and the right eye was somehow affected. She can't see except small light and she would only recognize a person by their voice or by touching them. They were in their 70's but still they managed to go to church weekly if it won't rain and the road won't be that slippery. The husband would drive their motorcycle and the wife will ride along with him. The ride would take them hours because their house is three- barangays away from the church and the road is not cemented yet. It is bumpy and rocky but they never failed to go to church.
There were times when they would arrive at church wet because of rain. There would be times when the husband was full of wounds and we found out that he crashed and the motorcycle was out of control. There were wounds all over his face and hand but he still managed to come to his destination- the church.
Before the near-death incident of the husband, the couple has been faithful to God. Giving Him what is due to Him and serving Him wholeheartedly. We are always thankful for this couple for modeling the true God-serving life for us. We are always inspired by all that they went through and yet they still overcome. It is because they were never abondoned by God during difficult times. God is with them and they are the most God-trusting people I know. Even when times would call for another action plan, they would just sit still and watch God do His works.
They are prayerful and they leave everything to God. Maybe that is why God always got them!
