Everyone has experiencing a moral dilemma, due to different situation that a person should face and should make a tough choice. It has something to do with an obligation of a person, making a moral choice has something to deal with its responsibility, concerning the consequences of every decisions, its moral conduct and its guilt as a person, those two conflicting choices that a person should make is a moral dilemma that exist. But there are certain theories which would awaken the people to have certain ideas on how to make wise decisions and deal with moral dilemma.
According to Immanuel Kant on his ethical theory adopts a deontological approach which highlights the concept of duty and the idea of universal moral law. Kant’s Moral Philosophy advocates a deontological moral theory, which opposes making morality conditional to actual circumstances and consequences of actions. What makes an action right according to Kant is not the fact that it leads to good and desirable consequences, but it is performed for the sake of duty. He maintains that the supreme principle of morality is the “categorical imperative,” which is an unconditional command. He asserts that the categorical imperative has the nature of an unconditional moral command or law, which human beings are obliged to follow in their capacity as rational creatures. It is a universal law, which allows no exception.
On his theory Immanuel Kant implies that people should live with a moral law, and follows our moral duty, to do the right thing not on our own personal motives, but considering what is the right thing based on the universal law. We should check first our actions if it is right or wrong thing to do, because based on his theory we should do and follow the rules that apply to everyone, for example if you wanted to killed a person because he/she betrayed you, it could possibly that everyone will do the same thing, based on him perfect duty is not to kill people, or even simply throwing your garbage somewhere else improperly, it would no longer be possible to follow the law, because of this logical contradiction, For Kant concerning on the moral law or aligning on moral duty in every decision that an individual will make, is very important, in any given situation a person must do the right thing, and that should follow moral rules, for example a stranger ask you where your family is, just to kill them, it would be immoral to lie so that based on Kant theory it is better to have silence just to preserve and not to be against in moral law. And also one point of Kant that he wants us to know is that, when we are giving a sample present to someone or in a charity to donate, we should think on our mind that it is for the good sake and for the happiness of the people that you’d help not thinking for a fame or other consequences for our personal motives.
Somehow Kant’s theory give justice on how to deal with a moral dilemma, though I am agree on some of his perspective on his theory, like having wholeheartedly making a moral decision not thinking on the personal consequences that an individual might receive on a particular action, but some are being opposed on others perspectives and views in life, most especially on how people instantly react on a difficult situation. Because individuals face different situation wherein you will did a decision for the sake of others, for others not to harm, or you will did a wrong thing for the right one is somehow still moral, but for Kant a person need to stick on his moral duty, whether what kind of situation thy are facing, that’s why somehow I didn’t agree some of Kant’s views and theories about morality and dealing with moral dilemma. It is much important to do the right thing and on how to react based on the situation. Thinking to save lives and not to harm people is the best choice to do even if it’s against the moral law.
