I am not so much afraid of passing away as I am afraid of the things that are guaranteed to take place after both my own and the passing of those I love. Knowing that I will pass away is one thing, knowing that your family and friends will die is something else entirely, but knowing that all of humanity will pass away and become extinct is something that has a greater impact on me. I'm not afraid of passing away in and of itself; rather, I dread the process of dying. The act of taking one's last breath before passing away. Will I be alone? Will I be with total strangers or with people I already know and love? Will I be a young person or an old one? Will it be painful? Will it be a gradual process like falling in love, or will it happen all at once like falling asleep? Will tears be shed for me after? Will I be conscious that my life is coming to an end? As I've already mentioned, I'm not afraid of dying in and of itself; rather, I'm terrified of the process of dying.
