Philippine myth creature "litao" or the husband of the mermaids The male anito of the waterways is known as the litao. In the Philippine city of Vigan, the sirena's husband is said to be a little man who lives in the branches of bamboo trees that line the riverbanks. When the ghost wants to tend to the bamboo trees in his area, it will sometimes go down to the ground disguised as a normal man. Those who cut down the trees will fall ill as a result of his curse.
